TAKAFUL Brunei Keluarga (TBK) collaborated with The Brunei Cancer Centre and Bank Islam Brunei Darussalam (BIBD) to host a breast cancer awareness event yesterday.
Guest of honour at the event at Rizqun INTERNATIONAL HOTEL , Gadong, was Permanent Secretary at Ministry of Health Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil.
TBK’s Deputy General Manager Hjh Mahana Hj Ajak said heart disease, diabetes and cancer were the three leading causes of death in Brunei in based on the Health Information Booklet in 2012.
“In 2012, out of the 555 deaths, 280 were caused by cancer,” she cited in her welcoming speech.
“In connection with this frightening fact, TBK took the initiative to organise this event to educate the members on the importance for women to be knowledgable about breast cancer,” she said.
She later handed over a donation in the form of a breast examination kit to Oncology Consultant at the Brunei Cancer Centre Dato Seri Laila Jasa Dr Babu Sukumaran (pic right). He was the invited speaker at the event yesterday.
A brief video presentation on Takaful As Syifa’ plan was also presented to the audience yesterday. The plan provides reimbursement for medical expenses for treatment of illnesses or accidents.
TBK also looks forward to collaborating with various organisations to increase health awareness and boost health care quality in the community.
